Okay, so my two friends and I for over a month have been debating and feverishly browsing the internet for wright here this saying came from. We're persuaded its from a movie or a television present, and also we can't for the life of us figure it out. It's driving us fucking crazy and we're wasting hrs of time at job-related trying to find the answer. Hell, we're shedding sleep over this shit. The 3 of us understand we've heard the exact dialogue, however have actually no principle where. Maybe it's a weird coincidence, possibly it's not. Someone assist us please!!

I uncovered those lines in a magazine write-up from 1935 (except it's slightly different; the words "are you" are not repeated). So I suppose that bit of dialog has been repeated many type of times considering that then, and also might be also older.

https://books.google.com/books?id=Tb4iAQAAMAAJ&q=%22Are+you+a+man,+or+a+mouse?%22+%22I%27m+a+mouse!%22

Edit: And the question "Are you a male or a mouse?" goes ago at leastern as far as 1912:

https://books.google.com/books?id=2lkxAQAAMAAJ&pg=RA4-PA50&dq="Are+you+a+man,+or+a+mouse?"

And the slightly longer version: "Are you a male or are you a mouse?" goes back to 1915:

https://books.google.com/books?id=KHtMAAAAMAAJ&pg=RA4-PA40&dq="Are+you+a+male,+or+are+you+a+mouse?"

It’s an old joke. I’d take into consideration Abbott and also Costello or The Three Stooges as possible cases. Maybe even Bob Hope or Jerry Lewis.

The book you are thinking of is Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck.

The title is taken from Robert Burns' poem "To a Mouse", which reads: "The ideal laid schemes o' mice an' men / Gang aft agley". (The finest laid schemes of mice and males / Often go awry.)

I don't believe it contains the line OP is looking for, though.
